Sillymares

I wrote this as a children's book a while ago...it's based on a game i used to play with my niece. whenever she had a nightmare shed call me and id retell it so it was silly instead of scary...*poof* no more scared so leilani could go to sleep...i'm working on the illustration now. :) don't steal it, k?

Some dreams are happy
We just call them dreams
Dreams are supposed to be happy it seems
Some dreams are frightening
“a nightmare,” we say
They startle our sleep
They scare us awake
But once in a while
A nightmare slips in
That just makes one giggle
And wake with a grin
You can tell when a dream is good or bad
You know what they’re like when they’re happy or sad
But how can you tell when it’s a sillymare you’ve had?
If you’re unsure there’s a test you can use
It’s new and improved
It’s truly foolproof
No pencils, no paper
No gauges, no tools
No wrong or right answers
No restrictions, no rules
No limits
Your friends can all play this game, too
All you need is a dream, your imagination…
…and you!
Now, think of a dream you had last night
And close your eyes
Make sure they’re closed tight!
Add in the colors, the voices, the sights
This is your dream, so see what you like!
Like tacos chasing you down the street
Or ghosts who tickle your toes
Or that time you dreamed you sneezed and a butterfly
Flew right out of your nose
Like broccoli disguised as chocolate
Or a vampire with no fangs
Who turns into a frog instead of a bat
And ribbits when he hangs
Like a yummy yummy spaghetti mummy
How silly that would taste!
Or having your hair grow so long in one day
You can tie it around your waist
Like aliens who steal your toenails
To cook in their scrambled eggs
Or a shark that never learned to swim
Or a spider with only one leg
Like monsters under your bed
Eating jelly beans and ice cream
Anything really!
It’s your own brand of silly!
When you wake and make up your own dream
Once you’ve finished redreaming your dream
The test is almost done
And a dream that may have been scary before
Is now a lot more fun
And you needn’t be so frightened
Of such a silly thing
And so you see a sillymare
Can be found in anything!
